Rams won 31 awards including the 2015 Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film festival.
In a secluded Icelandic valley, estranged brothers Gummi and Kiddi are warring neighbours, competing with each other for the best ram prize that has become a symbol of their family feud. But when Kiddi's prize ram is diagnosed with fatal scrapie disease (don't ask), both brothers are faced with the prospect of a cull. Kiddi's first reaction is to hit the schnapps and fire off a few potshots at his brother’s house, but the more cunning of the pair, Gummi has a plan. Can these long-term enemies find common purpose when their ancestral stock and way of life are threatened?
Rams is a masterclass in combining character and landscape that is played with deceptive poignancy by the excellent leads. It packs an unexpected emotional punch once the brothers finally manage a rapprochement of sorts.
As Monty Python said it so perfectly ... "And now for something completely different ... "
