The Old Man And The Gun
The Old Man And The Gun (2018) is based on a startling true story of Forrest Tucker, played by Robert Redford, a bank robber and serial prison-escaper who around the turn of this century hit the headlines as a dapper seventysomething by pulling off a series of bank heists.
Tucker was always impeccably courteous and well-dressed, flashing the gun inside his jacket to the astonished bank teller who would be almost hypnotised by his casual aplomb. Often in the company of a couple of other old rascals: they became known to chortling TV newsreaders as the The Over-the-Hill Gang.
The film depicts his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are Detective John Hunt (Casey Affleck), who becomes captivated with Forrest’s commitment to his craft, and a woman (Sissy Spacek), who loves him in spite of his chosen profession.
Starring as the pistol-packing grandpa, this is supposedly Robert Redford's swansong (not entirely sure we believe him...) - so do join us to salute him into graceful retirement!
