Proud to support the local community

Shere Village Cinema is proud to have been able to donate £3,500 of it's surpluses from the last 18 months film events to three worthy recipients: £1,500 to Peaslake Free School, £1,500 to Shere Infant School and £500 to Shere Village Nursery.

Receiving the cheques from Angus Cormie, David Roe and Louise Duncan from the SVC Committee, are the Head Teachers and some very well behaved girls and boys.

The committee really appreciates the support from the community - and would love to see you at a future event.

Tonight's Film

Shere Village Cinema would like to dedicate tonight's film to local star and cinema supporter Anthony Valentine, who sadly died yesterday. We will miss him and send our condolences to his family.

Veterans say Thank You at Fishability UK

On behalf of the charity thanks so much for supporting us during the year.

We formed Fishability UK in January 2012, and have been able to stage an event in fly, coarse or sea fishing discipline during every month since then.

We exist to support those valiant veterans of HM forces who are struggling with physical or psychological issues having left the theatre of war. Our legend is "Angling Therapy for Forces Veterans" , and the recreational therapy we provide for our clients helps to make a huge difference for their morale, confidence and general outlook on life. Having to deal with regularly recurrent flashbacks, nightmares, depression, loneliness, addiction, worthlessness, and a generally vulnerable demeanour, begins to paint a picture of just how difficult it is for some to battle on, years perhaps decades after service has ceased.
Those attending will often have passed through Combat Stress at Leatherhead, where they diagnose and treat Post Traumatic Stress, or Headley Court (the well known MoD Rehabilitation establishment), whilst we are also working with hostels housing veterans in Surrey and surrounding counties.

Our monthly events rely entirely upon donation, but people can help in many ways. The offer of a lake or river beat, some second hand tackle, catering items, instruction, guiding, as well as cash(!) can all be moulded into forming great days out for the veterans.Trips began with a local theme, but we now get out and about up to around 100 miles away, a venture to Draycote Water, Coventry for instance, for our Oct 2014 event.

We attained registered charity status in July 2014, and are in the process of confirming a full calendar of events for the year ahead.

So, with a huge thanks to the wonderful support from Shere Village Cinema, with your cheque for £1000, we can make an even bigger difference to the lives of our veterans, who have so bravely put their lives on the line for our continued security and peace.

It's Easy Fundraising!

. All thanks to your kind wine donations and from the profits we make on ticket sales and refreshments. But.. we'd like to do better!

We would love to triple our charity donation by the end of this year and unless we can convince you all to...

a) drink more wine or
b) eat more Honey & Ginger Ice Cream, it could be tricky!

We did have one idea: have you heard of Easy Fundraising? It is a fabulous way to help raise free donations whilst you shop online and it's simple...

  1. Visit easyfundraising.org.uk
  2. Support Shere Village Cinema
  3. Shop & Raise with over 2,700 retailers (John Lewis, Amazon, Sainsburys & more all take part)

We so far have raised with one supporter an extra £19.00, thank you Mike Edmondson. Just imagine if you could all help.

Thank you everyone and look forward to seeing you all on the 15th.
From all of us at Shere Village Cinema!
