Supporting Local Charities

The Shere Village Cinema committee is proud to announce that we raised over £2,500 in 2016 in surplus funds thanks to the continued loyalty and generosity of our audience throughout the year. We are delighted to be able to donate to five local charities, each of which expressed their enormous gratitude as the donations will make a huge difference to their cause.

£1,000 was donated to a special little boy, Leo Barnett. His parents, Melody and Pete, have been running a home-based Child Led Therapy Called the Son-Rise Program through the Autism Treatment Centre of America®. Since starting the programme, Leo has made amazing progress and is now making eye contact and requests cuddles. Our donation will contribute towards taking Leo to America in May 2017 for the Intensive Programme and we wish Leo and his wonderful family a happy and successful trip.

We also donated £500 to Cranleigh’s Riding for the Disabled as part of their fundraising initiative to build a new main barn that houses their stables and social area. A cheque for £500 was also presented to Ride for A Reason, run by Alison Oakden of Chilworth, which helps children with learning and minor disabilities. Our donation will help towards their running costs especially hay and feed.

Furthermore, £250 was donated to the 9th Shere and Peaslake Scout Group, and £250 to the Shere, Peaslake and Holmbury St Mary Guides Unit. These donations will help provide essential equipment for the Scouts and Guides as well as help towards the upgrade of the Scout Hut in Peaslake.

A massive thank you to our entire cinema community – your support is hugely appreciated and we look forward to seeing you at a film night very soon.
