film stars

Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool is a 2017 biographical romantic drama film directed by Paul McGuigan and starring Annette Bening, Jamie Bell, Vanessa Redgrave and Julie Walters.

Gloria Grahame was Hollywood legend and starred with Humphrey Bogart and James Stewart. She won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the 1952 film The Bad and The Beautiful. But Gloria Grahame refused to bow to Hollywood sexism, was overlooked for many leading roles and was eventually driven out of town.

Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool is the story of how Gloria found love and a second life with a chaotic Liverpool family. Based on Peter Turner's memoir, the film follows the playful but passionate relationship between Turner (Bell) and the eccentric Grahame (Bening) in 1978 Liverpool.

What starts as a vibrant affair between a legendary femme fatale and her young lover quickly grows into a deeper relationship, with Turner being the person Gloria turns to for comfort. Their passion and lust for life is tested to the limits by events beyond their control.
